
STUDENTS FOR SDGS
Students for SDGs as a movement seeks to elevate Colleges and Universities as conduits for the realization of the SDGs through Education, research, innovation and leadership which are all vital towards the realization of the Global Goals. Students For SDGs will provide an environment for creation of awareness on the SDGs through exchanges on knowledge, skills and public action. It will also inspire the students towards research and evidence based solutions to underpin and support the implementation of the SDGs by the global community – through both traditional disciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches. The initiative seeks to engage in dialogue of status analysis to map out the student levels of understanding and engagement with the SDGs, developing internal capacity and ownership mechanisms towards awareness creation and realization of the SDGs, identifying priorities, opportunities and gaps for advocacy and public action, innovation and civic participation and Monitoring, evaluating and communicating actions on SDGs. The initiative will also endeavor to offer a framework for demonstrating engagement and impact at local, national and regional level while supporting collaboration within the university. Finally, it is in the interest of the initiative to accelerate youth action in the implementation of Agenda 2030 for sustainability by ensuring that Students become integral part of policy making and implementation. Target group: University Students.
Focus
Youth participation in governance; policy making, solution creation, taking leadership roles in the community, advocates for social change, integration and development. Provide expert advice on localized SDG targets and indicators and monitoring and reporting mechanisms through these students. Student engagement in research on SDGs that will help with implementation. Integration of SDGs in universities and into guiding policies of university bodies and leadership. Use of SDGs as the basis for place-based learning and where the university is seeking to engage the community in learning programs or in research. Youth participation in SDGs, coming up with projects, Sustainable and long term solutions, be advocates for the development and use of available resources to create change and support themselves.
